The Tango Workbook First Edition

The Tango Workbook BookcoverIt has been about 5 weeks since I left Phoenix and I’m happy to report that I finished The Tango Workbook in time for the new semester. The Tango Workbook is a 65 page PDF document geared to the beginning Argentine Tango student. It is NOT a how to dance book – it is however, a supportive text for those students who learn visually and like to read what they might have heard or missed in class. I cover milonga etiquette, leader and follower technique reminders, a short history of Argentine Tango history; I talk about pivots, la cruzada, molinetes and more!

I have spent the last several years writing this workbook and have received feedback from students who have actually used it in their Argentine Tango course. Here are some of their comments:
It’s easy to read and to follow along with the class.
I liked the workbook and the information is super useful.
I sometimes miss things in class so when I read the workbook it helped me remember what we learned.
The section on Milonga Etiquette was very helpful. I was so glad that I read it before my first milonga experience. I was prepared!

Fun Weekend in Prescott, AZ

Tomorrow begins a wonderful weekend of tango in Prescott, AZ.

Friday April 26th

7pm-8pm Playing with the Music. Is the music still a puzzle for you? Can you still not hear it? There are many ways for us to play Prescott, AZwith the music and to use our vocabulary within the structure of the music. This class will take the melodies and rhythms in different orchestras and give you ideas on how to dance them.

Saturday April 27th
Technique parts 1 and 2 are to enhance the dancer’s insight on how to make movements happen in their bodies. Technique is essential, you can always learn styles, but technique really won’t change.

1pm-2pm Embrace, Walking & Dancing Technique part 1: Exercises and tango drills to improve your understanding of walking and embracing.
2:30pm-3:30pm Technique for pivots part 2: From walking to pivoting and how to make it easier.

4pm-5pm Playful turning combination. Spending time with some of the older milongueros was such a thrill and to learn some patterns that they chose to share and the stories that went with them felt like stepping back in history. Borrowed from the older milongueros, we will entertain a turning combination or two which will stress the steps of the giro and molinete.

Sunday April 28th
1pm-2pm Dancing MilongaMilonga is different than tango not just in the musical sound and timing but in how I approach the dance, how I choose to take those steps. We will dance to the quicker pace of the milonga music with a better understanding of how to execute those steps quickly!

Limited availability for Private Lessons. Please contact daniela@accesstango.com or earl.duque@gmail.com

SPECIAL GUESTS JULY 13 – 15, 2012 – DO NOT MISS!!!!

I can’t even begin to tell you how exciting it will be to have this couple with us for workshops and for an evening of amazing performances.

Rommel and I first saw Virginia and Christian dance by accident at a Practica in Buenos Aires. We were on 1 of our tango tours and Virginia y Christianthe students were a little tired so we decided to change the itinerary and go to a practica. We didn’t know much about the scene or that there would be a performance. I remember that I was so impressed by Christian and Virginia precision and line, not to mention their exquisite musicality.

The next couple of years we called on them to teach group classes to our tour group. In deciding teachers for the groups I invite teachers who we won’t see in the US or who we haven’t seen yet. Virginia and Christian have always been a perfect match for our groups. They teach like they dance, precise and generous. They are calm and kind.

We have admired their dancing since then. Rommel particularly likes Christian’s musicality and enrosque turns. These seem to be his signature move. We are so excited to have them in our city and we hope that you will not miss out. I have been getting emails from several organizers throughout the US who wish that they could have this exquisite couple in their city. We are 1 of ONLY 3 stops on their visit to the US.

I promise that you will not be disappointed. Come see them perform at the milonga on Saturday July 14th.
