Happy New Year!

I can’t believe 2010 is just about over.  It has been a fantastic year for me. I’ve met some fantastic people and have taught some amazing people tango this year.  My students give me a tremendous amount of joy  – thank you!

I look forward to 2011 in so many ways and so should you!

1) 3 TANGO TOURS TO CHOOSE FROM!
We will be offering 3 tours this coming year for tango lovers.  The Mendoza – Vino y Tango tour: 5 days in Mendoza Argentina exploring wine country.  The 10-day Cultural Immersion Tour – 10 days in Buenos Aires and the 8-day Tango Tour de Lujo. Each with a different pocketbook and objective in mind.

2) BORGIALLI TANGO SHOES ON THE ROAD!
Rommel Oramas and I will be taking the Soy Porteno practice sneakers on the road this year.  We will be visiting several festivals across the country and we are looking forward to bringing some comfort to your feet!  We will also be unveiling the Borgialli Tango Shoe website with shopping and logo.  VERY EXCITING!

3) MORE CLASSES!
Besides my classes at Scottsdale Community College and ASU this semester, I will be teaching my FUNDAMENTALS CLASSES in January.  ALSO, Fridays January 21, 28 and February 4th Rommel Oramas and I will be teaching ADVANCED CONNECTIONS WORKSHOPS at the Art of Dance in Scottsdale.
I will also be teaching in Jerome, Arizona in February!

4) ASU TANGO FESTIVAL APRIL 1, 2, 3
I am really excited for this festival. Not just because it is on my home turf! or is being hosted by my students or because I will be teaching at it! but MOST IMPORTANTLY the selection of teachers are some of the best teachers in the US (Canada)!  This will truly be a learning and sharing weekend.  Please join us…  Housing hosts and group rates available.

Happy NEW YEAR!  May all you wish be fulfilled!

ASU Guerilla Milonga in Elevator!
ASU Tango Club is hosting their semester milonga on Saturday December 4th in the ASU Memorial Union Ballroom from 8pm – 12am.  $10.  They are calling it the Black and White Milonga.  Tango Club is celebrating their 10th Anniversary as well.
It’s amazing to think that I was taking tango at ASU and then shortly after I left in 2000 Tango Club began to take formation.  I knew the originators of the first tango clubs as they had taken class with me!  I was fortunate to have Eric Parks and Ali Wachutka as students in 2006 who started the Tango Club format as it stands now.

Next weekend we have combined the Practica del Desierto with the Practica del Diablo.  ASU will be the hosts for this practica on Saturday December 11th 8pm – 12am at Art of Dance Studio in Scottsdale.  This practica will be run by ASU students. Acacia Crouch will be DJ.  Marie Righetti will be teaching the class prior to the practica.  As an added attraction the ASU Tango 2 students will give you the option to “DANCE WITH A DEVIL”.  Followers:  buy a tanda or 2 with a lovely Tango 2 leader of your choice.

Remember you can still practice your tango on Tuesday nights at Art of Dance.

Free Event was Great!

Thursday and Friday October 13, 14, 21, 22 I hosted a Free Tango event at ASU Night Gallery in Tempe Marketplace.

Free Tango 1

We had a lot of people come for the free classes, (60+)  many stayed for dancing and we had lovely performances.

More than 300 people each night were exposed to Tango!

Free Tango 2

I am really grateful to my ASU students who came out to help in many ways:  dancing, handing out fliers, telling people about tango, performing, and taking the classes.

This was a great opportunity to share community, share time with nice people, make new friends through dance.

Dance and Tango is so many things to different people and some have never danced before.  Dance creates connection to self, to others, to music.  It is great exercise.  It works the body and the brain.

Tango is fabulous medicine!

The dancers who experienced performing, some for the first time were Acacia and Ryan, Ben and Katie, and Marisa and Derek.  This was so great to see their dancing, to hear about their experience, their nerves, their expectations met or unmet.  Many parents came to see their children for the first time dancing.  How great to see that kind of support.

Some of The local Tango Community came out to dance or to see what it was about.

I am happy with the event.  I enjoyed taking tango to a gallery space and to a mall.

Saturday is going to be fun!!!

PRACTICA del Desierto SATURDAY October 9th

Rommel Oramas and I will be hosting a practica instead of a milonga on the 2nd Saturday of the month.  The 2nd Saturday Practica will be an Orchestral Immersion – with this Saturday’s focus: Carlos Di Sarli. (my favorite!)

The evening begins at 8pm with a Specialty Class for all levels with Rommel Oramas.
Followed by practice practice and more practice from 9:00 – 12:00 (ish!). Rommel and I will be on hand to answer any questions and for dancing 🙂

The 1st 2 hours will be completely focused on Carlos Di Sarli’s music in as much chronology as I can piece together! I will insert tidbits of information regarding di Sarli and his orchestra to contextualize his beautiful music without taking away from dancing time.

The goal will be to have a Guest Tango Music Maven every month to present their favorite songs by the chosen orchestra and why!
We have many talented people in the area who DJ and who have great insight into our lovely Tango Music. We will post our Orchestras for the year on Saturday.
