In video #6 in the Series Technique for Improving your Tango Dancing I encourage you to walk around. Just walk! That’s right!
Do you feel stable walking around without your heels (without your shoes)? Walk forwards and backwards. Notice where you don’t feel stable. Are you tightening your feet? Are you pushing away from the floor? Where are your feet pointing?
If all that feels ok, then put on your shoes and repeat. The more we feel comfortable wandering around in our shoes the better it will be when we are dancing.
On a side note – it could be your shoes. I know this is a soapbox of mine (one of many I have, I know) but if your shoes don’t fit your properly you will have problems with stability, etc.
Also, I have picked up a habit of lifting my heel when I am dancing. And you can see it here on this video. I encourage you to work with your heels down as much as possible: lengthening the back of your legs and not shortening or overusing your ankle joint.
